The Halifax student credit card is a middle of the road card. Its interest rate is slightly higher than some but lower than its main competitors, LloydsTSB and Natwest. Interestingly like most standard credit cards these days, you get to select the look of the card with a choice of 4 colours - brilliant black, passionate pink, radiant red and winning white. As with most student credit cards it’s got a maximum credit limit of £500 with a minimum monthly payment of £5.
It’s a good package as well:
- An adjustable credit limit, allowing you to choose how much is right for you - anything from the maximum of £500 right down to £100
- Free text alerts to remind you when to pay your bill and the minimum payment required
- Weekly balance updates via text message
- Great discounts with a range of well-known brands
- Up to 59 days interest free credit on all purchases if you pay off your balance in full each month
- No annual fee
Halifax pride themselves on their strap line "who gives you extra" but in this instance you kind of get the feeling that there is nothing "extra" about this card. It’s not a bad credit card. You can apply online and there certainly are benefits associated with it which is why it's been accredited with a star rating. Look at our student credit cards section to compare all the options.
