Having a credit card is nearly a necessity of life these days. Without a credit card in your name, you may find it difficult or impossible to get a mobile telephone provider, make purchases online or over the telephone, rent an automobile or deal with emergencies. Some people, though, may find it difficult to qualify for a standard credit card because of previous credit troubles, or because they lack a credit history, or because they find it difficult to prove a steady source of income. A bad credit credit card is a credit card that is designed specifically for those who have less than perfect credit.
Companies who issue these cards are willing to take a risk on people who may not be able to get credit any other way. They're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, of course. They will charge higher interest on the balance on your credit card, and often will only approve low spending limits until you prove that you can handle credit responsibly. In the worst case scenario, they may require that you open a bank account with their banking institution to serve as security that you will repay your account regularly.
If you've been unable to acquire a credit card from your bank or from standard issuers, a bad credit credit card can be useful in more ways than one. In addition to providing you with all the advantages of having a credit account in your name, it will give you an opportunity to start building or rebuilding your credit. As you make on time, regular payments, your credit score and rating will begin to improve. Eventually, you will be able to qualify for a credit card at a more advantageous interest rate.
